Yingkou LNG Terminal, Northeast China's Largest, Achieves Overall Mechanical Completion
On 29 September, the Yingkou LNG receiving terminal project at Xianrendao port area in Liaoning Province achieved overall mechanical completion, officially moving into the joint commissioning and pre-start-up preparation phase. A key project under China's 13th Five-Year Plan and a priority scheme in Liaoning's 14th Five-Year Plan, the terminal represents a total investment of RMB 7.009 billion and covers 55.2 hectares, with a designed maximum receiving capacity of 6.2 million tpy and an annual gas supply capacity of up to 8.7 billion m³, enough to meet a full year of residential gas demand across the three northeastern provinces; its four tanks hold 500 million m³ of static storage. It is the LNG terminal in China at the highest latitude with the longest frigid period and the most complex geological conditions, and all four 9% nickel steel inner tanks were built using automated welding, the first large-scale application of this technique in Chinese LNG tank construction, cutting welding time per tank by 15 to 20 days compared with conventional methods.
Shell Takes Final Investment Decision to Double LNG Canada Capacity
Shell has taken a final investment decision on Phase 2 of the LNG Canada project in Kitimat, British Columbia, adding two liquefaction trains that will double total capacity from 14 million tpy to 28 million tpy. Shell holds a 40% interest in LNG Canada and will gain close to 6 million tpy of additional LNG from the expansion, with commercial operations expected to begin in the early 2030s. The project is positioned to supply cost-competitive gas to Asian markets where demand is growing significantly. According to Shell's LNG Outlook 2026, global LNG demand is expected to grow by about 60% by 2040.

Fourth LNG Tank Completed at the Netherlands' Gate Terminal
Construction of the fourth LNG tank at the Gate terminal on the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam has been completed on schedule, with commissioning beginning in early October after a three-year build. The new tank has a storage capacity of 180,000 m³, and the expansion increases the terminal's annual regasification capacity by 4 billion m³ to 200 billion m³ per year, against a total Dutch gas market of roughly 30 billion m³ per year. The expansion responds to the energy crisis of 2022. In addition, construction of berth 4 in the Port of Rotterdam is progressing well, with small-scale loading and bunkering operations expected to begin by the end of 2028. Gate is a joint venture between Gasunie and Vopak.
