PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal Receives Its 900th LNG Carrier
On 9 October, the Bahamas-flagged vessel Ushakov berthed at the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG receiving terminal with 74,300 t of LNG, becoming the 900th LNG carrier received since the terminal started operations in 2011 and making it the second receiving terminal in mainland China to reach this milestone. The terminal currently has six tanks with a total capacity of 1.08 million m³ and can ramp up send-out to 42 million m³ per day at peak. Since start-up it has received close to 75 million t of LNG from 29 countries and regions and supplied more than 100 billion m³ of natural gas. Expansion of the Phase 3 supporting berth and Phase 4 tanks is accelerating, and once complete total tank capacity will reach 1.28 million m³ with daily send-out rising to about 60 million m³.
Two 150,000-DWT LNG Berths Complete Main Structure at Yangkou Port's Sunshine Island
On 15 October, the main structures of two 150,000-DWT LNG berths on Sunshine Island at Yangkou Port — the supporting berths for the Jiangsu Guoxin Rudong LNG receiving terminal and the GCL Huidong Jiangsu Rudong LNG receiving terminal — were completed by CCCC Second Harbor Engineering. Once operational, the two berths will further strengthen Yangkou Port's LNG handling capacity, support Rudong's ambition to become a clean energy hub in the Yangtze River Delta, and provide infrastructure support for regional winter gas supply security and optimisation of the energy mix.
EPC Bid Result Announced for No. 4 270,000 m³ Tank at Huizhou LNG Terminal Phase 2
The bid evaluation result for the design and construction general contract of Phase 2 Stage 1 (No. 4 tank) of the Huizhou LNG receiving terminal has been published. A consortium led by China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering, together with China Nuclear Huaxing Construction and Sinopec Fourth Construction, ranked first with a bid of RMB 456 million against a maximum tender price of RMB 580 million, on a total construction period of 39 months. The tank, with a capacity of 270,000 m³, will be the largest single LNG tank in China. Phase 1 of the terminal, comprising three 200,000 m³ tanks, entered commercial operation in September 2024; Phase 2 plans three further 270,000 m³ tanks, lifting maximum throughput from 6.1 million tpy to 10 million tpy.
CLPe and CNOOC Complete Hong Kong's First PCTC LNG Bunkering
On 26 September, CLPe, the electricity business of CLP Holdings, teamed up with CNOOC (Shenzhen) International Marine Clean Energy to complete Hong Kong's first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering of a pure car and truck carrier, the AICC Phoenix, at Anchorage 3 in western Hong Kong waters. The world's largest LNG bunkering vessel, Hai Yang Shi You 301, delivered about 2,600 m³ of LNG in roughly six hours. The 200 m long, 38 m wide dual-fuel PCTC has 12 decks and can carry 7,000 standard cars, and departed for the Mediterranean after bunkering to transport vehicles exported from the mainland. The operation demonstrates Hong Kong's ability to serve vessels running on multiple types of green fuel and consolidates its position as an international green marine fuel bunkering centre.
JERA Increases Indirect Interest in Australia's Wheatstone LNG Project
On 16 October, JERA announced it had completed the acquisition of all shares held by the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) in Pan Pacific Energy (PEJ) on 2 October, raising its stake in PEJ to 50.1%. The interest held by PEJ subsidiary PE Wheatstone in the Wheatstone LNG project is unchanged at 10% of the upstream gas field development and 8% of the liquefaction project. The project has supplied gas steadily to Japan since starting production in 2017, and JERA purchases about 5.2 million tpy of LNG from it.
Delhi Backs US$1.9 Billion Sewer Overhaul Under Single-Operator Model
Delhi Jal Board has given in-principle approval to a ten-year sewer network maintenance and rehabilitation programme worth INR 179.699 billion (about US$1.9 billion) based on a single-operator-per-zone model that divides the city into eight zones, with all sewers, manholes, pumping stations and complaint handling in each zone handed to a single operator with performance-linked payments. Delhi currently has 11,212 km of sewers, about 668,000 manholes and 145 pumping stations. The programme replaces reactive repairs with flood and overflow control and preventive maintenance, supported by geo-tagged inspections, real-time monitoring and mechanised robotic desilting. The board also approved a Rs 6.04 billion (about US$636 million) water supply improvement project for South Delhi.
California's Friant-Kern Canal Begins US$200 Million Modernisation
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Friant Water Authority have started Phase 1 of the pump replacement programme on California's Friant-Kern Canal, backed by US$200 million from the Department of the Interior. Built in 1951, the 152-mile (245 km) canal carries water south from Millerton Lake near Fresno to the Kern River at Bakersfield, serving more than 1 million acres of farmland in Kern, Tulare, Fresno and Kings counties. Phase 1 replaces five of the canal's 13 pumping stations with updated pumps, motors and control systems, cutting emergency repair costs and energy use and providing more reliable drinking water for about 250,000 residents; construction will run through 2027.
SUEZ Wins Contract to Upgrade Micropollutant Treatment at Denmark's Kalundborg Plant
Danish utility Kalundborg Forsyning has selected SUEZ to design and deliver a quaternary treatment process at the Kalundborg central wastewater treatment plant under a three-year contract. The new facility will use two ozone dosing lines with three-stage ozone generators and eight granular activated carbon filters, together with digital optimisation technology, to reduce micropollutant levels in treated effluent discharged into the Great Belt while increasing treatment capacity and meeting Denmark's strict discharge standards. The project responds to the revised EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive requirements on quaternary micropollutant treatment, which member states must transpose into national law by July 2027.
