Latest company news about TimeWave Weekly Report on Gas/Water Industry - January 17th to 23th

During the period from January 17th to 23th, 2026, the following international news occurred:

1. Indian biogas could receive $135m boost this year

The Indian Biogas Association has proposed establishing a dedicated fund of $134.5 million in the upcoming federal budget to subsidize the biogas industry. This move is expected to leverage large-scale private investment, create rural income opportunities, and help reduce natural gas imports. India possesses abundant biomass resources, and biogas demand is projected to grow by 25% by 2030. Global companies such as Mitsubishi Corporation have already invested in India's biogas sector.

2. Uniper signs for 500,000 tonnes of Indian green ammonia

German energy company Uniper has signed a long-term binding agreement with India's AM Green to procure up to 500,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually from the latter. The first shipments are expected in 2028 from AM Green's planned million-tonne-per-year facility under construction in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The green ammonia will be certified as a "Non-Biological Origin Renewable Fuel" per EU standards, intended for decarbonizing sectors like chemicals and fertilizers. This move also reflects the deepening cooperation between India and Germany in clean energy.

3. Mitsubishi buys Aethon US gas assets for $5.2bn

Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation has acquired Aethon Energy's natural gas and pipeline assets in the United States for $5.2 billion, including Haynesville shale gas reserves. This marks Mitsubishi's first fully integrated shale gas presence in the US, spanning upstream development to domestic sales and LNG export capabilities. The asset portfolio includes upstream development in British Columbia, Canada, with Ovintiv; trading and logistics via CIMA Energy; and export capacity through the LNG Canada and Cameron LNG projects. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter.

4. UAE commits to supporting Nigeria LNG sector

The United Arab Emirates and Nigeria have signed a memorandum of understanding worth $700 million to collaborate on developing a Nigerian liquefied natural gas project. The project plans to construct a 100 million standard cubic feet per day LNG facility in Akwa Ibom State, helping Nigeria leverage its natural gas reserves to drive economic growth. The UAE aims to secure future gas supplies and expand its influence in the global energy market through this initiative.

5. OMV secures €123m for Austria green hydrogen project

Austrian energy company OMV has secured up to €123 million in funding to build a 140 MW green hydrogen production plant in Bruck an der Leitha. The plant, scheduled to start operations by the end of 2027, will use renewable energy from wind, solar, and hydropower to produce approximately 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by 150,000 tonnes per year. The hydrogen will be supplied via a 22-kilometer pipeline to the local Schwechat refinery. The project is a joint venture between OMV and the UAE's Masdar.

6. Nordsol to supply bioLNG tech at Norway plant in latest Vireo deal

Dutch bio-LNG company Nordsol will supply biogas upgrading and liquefaction equipment for the Lista biogas plant in Farsund, southern Norway. Owned by clean energy developer Vireo, the plant is expected to start production in the first quarter of 2028. It will process approximately 160,000 cubic meters of manure, fish waste, and other feedstocks annually to produce about 90 GWh of bio-LNG. All output is contracted to Nordic energy company Gasum for long-term supply, supporting decarbonization in the transport and industrial sectors. This marks the second technology partnership between Nordsol and Vireo.

7. Waga Energy awarded CA$15m for Quebec biomethane project

French company Waga Energy has been awarded CA$15 million (approximately US$10.8 million) in financial support from the province of Quebec, Canada, for its biomethane production project at the Hébertville-Station landfill. The project will use its patented Wagabox® technology to upgrade biogas into biomethane, with an expected annual production of 188,000 MMBtu (approximately 55 GWh), enough to meet the energy needs of about 2,900 households. The refined biomethane will be injected into the Energir natural gas network, helping Quebec achieve its 2030 target of blending 10% biomethane into the gas grid.

8. Financial close for Delfin FLNG vessel ‘within next month’

US-based Delfin Midstream expects to reach a final investment decision for the first floating liquefied natural gas vessel within its Delfin LNG project offshore Louisiana within the next month. The project will connect to existing pipelines for gas processing and export, aiming to become the first US FLNG project utilizing existing infrastructure to reduce LNG supply costs. Long-lead equipment has been ordered, and the company is advancing commercial and financing efforts to finalize the project.

9. Anglian awards desalination technical contract to TYPSA and Stantec

UK water utility Anglian Water has awarded a £29 million technical contract to the TYPSA-Stantec consortium to build the first seawater desalination plants within the UK water industry, located in Lincolnshire and Norfolk. The project aims to address local water scarcity challenges and enhance water supply resilience in the drought-prone eastern region of England. Construction is expected to commence in 2026, with a five-year collaboration period. The consortium will provide end-to-end professional technical support from design through construction.
