Transmission Project for Chongqing Yunyang Jianquan Pumped Storage Station Starts Construction
The 500 kV transmission and transformation project for the Yunyang Jianquan pumped storage power station in Chongqing has officially started construction. As the key supporting project for delivering power from the station, the project will significantly improve the power supply capacity and clean energy absorption level of the northeastern Chongqing power grid, ease peak-shaving pressure and safeguard secure and stable grid operation. Pumped storage stations act as large-scale 'green chargers' for the grid, and supporting transmission corridors are critical to bringing their flexibility services online.
Construction Starts on China Resources' 40 MW Chibi Shenshan Composite Solar Project
On October 13, the 40 MW Chibi Shenshan composite photovoltaic project formally started construction in Shenshan Town, Chibi City, Hubei Province. On October 15, the EPC winning-bid result for the 150 MW solar-plus-storage integration project in Yuanping City, Xinzhou, Shanxi Province was announced, with Tongbao Yuanping Clean Energy Co. as the project owner. The project has an AC-side PV capacity of 150 MW and a DC-side energy storage capacity of no less than 450 MWh, making it another large-scale solar-storage coordinated development project in Shanxi and supporting the province's renewable energy expansion.
China's First 100 MW Compressed CO2 Energy Storage Plant Connects to Grid
China's first 100 MW compressed carbon dioxide energy storage plant has been connected to the grid, marking a major scale-up for gas-liquid phase-change energy storage technology. The milestone demonstrates the viability of CO2-based long-duration storage as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries and compressed-air systems, offering a new technological option for large-scale, long-duration energy storage as China continues to expand its renewable energy fleet.
Guangxi Mengshan Starts Construction on 300 MW / 600 MWh Energy Storage Station
A 300 MW / 600 MWh new-type energy storage station in Mengshan County, Wuzhou, Guangxi has entered the construction phase. Signed at the China-ASEAN Expo green and low-carbon exhibition, the project moved from contract signing to construction start in less than one month. With a total investment of about CNY 900 million, it uses lithium iron phosphate technology and includes a 220 kV booster station, with grid connection targeted for July 2027. Once operational, it will provide annual peak-shaving electricity of about 180,000 MWh, strengthening regional grid regulation capacity and renewable energy consumption.
Gansu Linze's 300 MW / 1,200 MWh Independent Storage Station Nears Grid Connection
The Pingchuan Xiaokouzi 300 MW / 1,200 MWh independent energy storage station in Linze County, Zhangye, Gansu Province, with total investment of about CNY 1.2 billion, has essentially completed civil and electrical installation since construction began in June and is entering electrical commissioning, with completion expected by the end of October. Once operational it will deliver about 500 million kWh of clean electricity annually. Together with the already operational Banqiao Yangtai 300 MW / 1,200 MWh independent shared storage station in the same county, it forms a 'dual-engine' new-type storage layout supporting Gansu's new energy base development.
Botswana's Jwaneng 100 MW Solar Plant Built by Chinese Companies Reaches Commercial Operation
The Jwaneng 100 MW photovoltaic plant in Botswana, developed and operated by a consortium including Chinese contractor China Harbour Engineering Company, has recently achieved commercial operation, becoming one of Botswana's first hundred-megawatt-scale centralized solar plants. Completed in only 11 months from construction start, the plant is equipped with a 132 kV substation and transmission facilities, with equipment availability consistently above 99 percent. With projects like Jwaneng coming online, Botswana's total installed PV capacity has reached more than 200 MW, supporting the country's goal of raising renewables to 50 percent of its power mix by 2036.
Croatia's Largest Solar Plant at Korlat, Built with Chinese Partners, Comes Online
The Korlat solar power plant near Benkovac in northern Dalmatia, Croatia's largest solar project, has been commissioned. With an installed capacity of 99 MW across about 1.5 square kilometers, it uses around 160,000 single-axis tracking modules and is expected to generate about 165 GWh annually, enough to supply 50,000 households, forming a renewable hybrid park with the adjacent Korlat wind farm. Croatian utility HEP invested around EUR 70 million, with construction carried out by a Chinese consortium of Norinco International and Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute. A battery storage system is planned for the site.
Recurrent Energy Reaches Commercial Operation of 200 MWp Villameca Solar Project in Spain
On October 15, Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, announced commercial operations at the Villameca project, a 200 MWp solar plant in Castilla y Leon, Spain. Expected to generate about 359 GWh of clean electricity annually, it will power more than 100,000 homes and avoid around 57,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year, with battery storage hybridization planned. With this project, together with the recently inaugurated 426 MWp Rey Solar project and the 315 MWp Tordesillas project, Recurrent Energy's operational solar capacity in Spain is expected to reach about 1 GW by year-end.
Vattenfall Contracts Fluence for 254 MW / 1,016 MWh Battery Storage in Germany
Vattenfall has contracted Fluence to deliver a 254 MW / 1,016 MWh battery energy storage system at a former nuclear power plant site in Germany, with construction scheduled to start in 2027 and grid connection planned for late 2028.
