Huadian, PowerChina, and China Southern Power Grid affiliates signed major pumped storage EPC contracts and county-level wind and solar projects. Notably, CSG Lancang-Mekong International Energy and Laos' national utility EDL signed China's first cross-border green certificate cooperation MOU, establishing a framework for mutual recognition of green electricity attributes and regional clean energy pricing mechanisms.
MN8 Energy Commissions 260 MW Solar Portfolio, All Under Microsoft PPAs
On June 10, U.S. independent power producer MN8 Energy announced commercial operations at two utility-scale solar PV plants: the 120 MW Long Point project located in the Houston load zone of Texas' ERCOT market, and the 140 MW American Beech project in North Carolina's PJM market, totaling 260 MW. Both projects operate under long-term power purchase agreements with Microsoft Corp. The development follows MN8's commissioning of its 100 MW/400 MWh Pome battery storage system in Poway, California, in May 2026 under a 10-year tolling agreement with Sonoma Clean Power, and an 80 MW Pennsylvania solar project with Meta expected by end-2026.
Meta Signs 298 MW Texas Solar PPA with RWE, Pushing Joint Portfolio Past 870 MW
On June 12, PV-Tech reported that Meta Platforms signed a power purchase agreement with German developer RWE for the 298 MW Rabbit's Foot solar project in Texas. This brings the cumulative PPA capacity between Meta and RWE over the past two years to over 870 MW, encompassing projects including the 274 MW Emily solar project in Illinois, the 100 MW Lafitte project in Louisiana, and the 200 MW Waterloo project in Texas. The agreement underscores the sustained momentum of technology companies driving demand for utility-scale green power procurement to meet data center and operational decarbonization targets.
India's Rooftop Solar Boom Drives National PV Capacity Past 150 GW
On June 12, PV-Tech reported that India's total installed solar capacity surpassed 150 GW in early 2026, propelled by the flagship PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme with a total budget of US$7.8 billion. Monthly residential rooftop solar installations skyrocketed from approximately 7,000 households pre-scheme to over 300,000, with more than 3.3 million systems installed and subsidies exceeding INR 92.8 billion disbursed. However, state-level execution remains highly uneven: Gujarat and Kerala report installation-to-application conversion rates above 65%, while Uttar Pradesh lags at only 14.8%. Financing access, particularly for low- and middle-income households, remains the primary barrier to sustained and equitable growth.
